PEOPLE WHO HELP US

“Say something positive and you will see something positive” - Jim Thompson

If we delve into the above phrase, we learn that positivity is like a wild fire- if it begins right, it spreads good energy and happiness throughout the session. The children of classes Pre-Nursery to Preparatory had an exciting day with the Major activity ‘People Who Help Us.’ The foyer was decorated with cut outs of community helpers and various neighbourhoods were setup. The enriching ambience prompted curiosity among children and ignited the young minds with lots of questions.

The special assembly began with the welcome note to the audience by the children of Class Preparatory. It was followed by Warm up Exercise for the Dipsites to stretch their body parts and activate their minds through the energising exercises. Children rendered the shloka and prayer to invoke the blessings of God through their sweet voice.

Introduction of the activity was done by the children of Class Preparatory B where they spoke about the importance of community helpers with their seamless speech. The children of Class Pre- Nursery enthralled the audience by presenting action songs about the community helpers, followed by children of Class Nursery, who dressed up as doctors, soldiers and farmers. They marched to the stage and spoke about their profession. Class Preparatory A entertained the audience by showcasing their talents through the enactment of Gingerbread Man and the Community Helpers. The children keenly observed and listened to the talk of the real heroes- the gardener Mr. Senthil, the driver- Mr. Murugesan and the nurse- Ms. Sheeba.

The Academic Advisor, Takshila Educational Society, Dr. Seema Malik acknowledged and appreciated the service staff for their service and as a token of appreciation Thank You cards were given to them. She also addressed the audience, expressing her opinions on the integral role of the community helpers. A thank you note was delivered by a student of Class Preparatory.  The parents and the children visited the displays setup in the foyer. The little Dipsites marched forward for the various Indoor and Outdoor activities planned for them.

Class Preparatory Indoor and Outdoor activities

Children of Class Preparatory shared their thoughts about their future goals during the Language activity- What I want to become when I grow up? They also enthusiastically took part in Community Craft activities where they made a First Aid Kit by pasting the bandage, gauge, ear buds and cotton in their scrap file as well as they made a handy First Aid kit for themselves. They were made aware of the different names of the things like gauge bandage, band aid, ear buds and cotton which are used during an emergency. Outdoor activity -Dumb Charades encouraged the children to mime their favourite community helper and others were engaged in finding the right one. They looked for clues from the performer and ended up with learning the names of many community helpers. Children were taken to the Bus Bay and the school bus driver explained about the parts of the bus, safety rules and First Aid kid. Children were also informed about the safety precautions to be followed during a journey.

Nursery Indoor and Outdoor activities

Children arrived dressed in their favourite casual outfits, and some even dressed up as community helpers, sharing what these helpers do in their daily routines during the assembly. As part of the indoor activities, the children participated in a Firefighter Engine art activity, which they thoroughly enjoyed. During circle time, the teacher introduced the community helper firefighters, explaining how brave they are and how they courageously respond to fire emergencies. The children then created fire engine crafts, which they pasted in their scrapbooks.

For the outdoor activities, the children had fun playing "Who Stole the Cookies from the Cookie Jar?" In this game, one child acted as the police officer, wearing a hat, and accused another child, after which they switched roles. Everyone had a chance to play and enjoyed the game. Overall, it was an educational and joyful experience for the children.

Pre - Nursery Indoor and Outdoor activities

The Pre-Nursery children had an exciting day filled with appealing activities. They dressed up as their favourite community helpers for the language activity, sharing insights about their roles and responsibilities. A vocabulary game followed, where they solved riddles about different helpers, sparking their curiosity. The police car craft was a big hit with children actively decorating a half-cut paper plate, all while learning about the role of the police. During the outdoor session, the teacher introduced primary colours by painting on the floor, and the children keenly identified the colours while singing. In the "Little Gardeners" activity, the children connected with nature by planting saplings in the kitchen garden under the school gardener's guidance, also learning about the tools used. The day ended with a community helper’s video in the audio-visual room, bringing together fun and learning in a memorable way.
